Béchamel - Basic Recipe (English)

Ingredients:

  • 50 g butter

  • 50 g flour

  • 500 ml milk

  • Salt

  • Pepper


Preparation:

  1. Make the roux:
    In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth and lump-free. Let cook for 2 minutes without letting the flour brown.

  2. Add the milk:
    Gradually add the milk (cold or lukewarm), whisking constantly to prevent lumps.

  3. Thicken the sauce:
    Continue heating and whisking until the sauce thickens. This will take around 5 to 10 minutes.

  4. Season:
    Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
