50 g butter

50 g flour

500 ml milk

Preparation:

Make the roux:
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth and lump-free. Let cook for 2 minutes without letting the flour brown. -
Add the milk:
Gradually add the milk (cold or lukewarm), whisking constantly to prevent lumps. -
Thicken the sauce:
Continue heating and whisking until the sauce thickens. This will take around 5 to 10 minutes. -
Season:
Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste.
